Entry Requirements

Minimum Age: An applicant for admission to CIM undergraduate or graduate programs must be over 18 years age and satisfy at least one of the following academic admission requirements.

Academic Requirements

Undergraduate Programs

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent with an ATAR of 65 or above.
  • Satisfactory completion of an approved Tertiary Preparation Program, Tertiary Orientation Program, or a Foundation Year Program through an accredited institution of higher education offered at Australian Universities, TAFE Institutes or government approved Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
  • Completion of a Certificate IV or higher.
  • Admission to candidature for an undergraduate course at an Australian university which achieve equivalent point.

Graduate Diploma Programs

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Graduate Certificate (or equivalent) in similar discipline from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent.
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate programs.
  • Completion of a relevant postgraduate preparation program.

Masters Programs

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent.
  • Students enrolling into graduate programs, particularly in ICT programs, require a bachelor’s degree from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent in a discipline containing mathematics up to year two level.

    *A discipline containing “mathematics up to year two level” would mean that applicants need to have an appropriate background in one of the following areas:

    • Discrete Mathematics
    • Linear Algebra
    • Engineering Maths
    • Calculus
    • Statistics
    • Probability
    • Actuarial Maths
    • Numerical Methods
    • Vector Algebra
  • Successful completion of a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma from an Australian institution or overseas equivalent.
  • Evidence of a minimum of two years relevant industry experience at managerial level.
  • Successful completion of an approved Graduate Qualifying Program from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent.

Research Programs

  • A Master Degree (AQF Level 9) or Bachelor (Honours) degree from CIM or any other approved institution.
  • A three-year undergraduate degree and a graduate diploma at a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70 percent or higher.
  • A three-year undergraduate degree at a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70 percent or higher, plus a minimum of one year’s relevant work experience.
  • A qualification recognised as equivalent by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).
  • Alternative qualification/s and/or experience may be considered to be of equivalent scope and standard to those listed above by the Academic Board of the Institute.

English Language Proficiency

Undergraduate Programs

  • A current (within two years of test date) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of 6.0 or higher with no band lower than 5.5 or successful completion of an approved English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course. Other acceptable test scores in PTE, CAE and TOEFL as mentioned in section below
  • If the admission applicant’s IELTS test result is older than two years, to prove their required English language competency, the admission applicant may sit for an English language test conducted by an Australian ELICOS provider. See below
  • Undertaken secondary or higher education (tertiary) studies in English
  1. A completed and recognised secondary education (high school) qualification, or
  2. A completed and recognised foundation/preparation program with the required grades in relevant English subjects, or
  3. A completed AQF diploma /advanced diploma (or equivalent) from a recognised institution, or
  4. At least one year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) in a recognised bachelor’s degree or other approved higher education qualifications.

The above studies must be undertaken in English within five years of the date on which students will commence their course, in an English-speaking country as listed below:

American Samoa, Australia, Botswana, Canada (excluding Quebec), Fiji, Ghana, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), United States of America, Zambia or Zimbabwe.

If students have completed studies in a different country, they can prove their proficiency through satisfactory achievement in:

  • A completed and recognised secondary education (high school) qualification undertaken in English, such as the Cambridge GCE Advanced Levels and International Baccalaureate diploma, or
  • A completed and recognised foundation/preparation program with the required grades in relevant English subjects, or
  • At least one year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) in a recognised bachelor’s degree or other approved higher education qualifications, where the instruction for studies (teaching, assessment and examination) was entirely in English in approved countries and/or institutions, assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Institute.

The above studies must be undertaken in English within five years of the date on which students will commence their course.

The five years limitation period would not apply to applicants who:

Meet the minimum institutional English language requirements and can demonstrate with evidence that they have continuously resided and studied/worked in an English-speaking country since the completion of their English language studies.

Graduate Programs

  • A current (within two years of test date) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of 6.5 or higher with no band lower than 6.0 or successful completion of an approved English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course. Other acceptable test scores in PTE, CAE and TOEFL as mentioned in section below
  • If the admission applicant’s IELTS test result is older than two years, to prove their required English language competency, the admission applicant may sit for an English language test conducted by an Australian ELICOS provider. See below
  • Undertaken higher education (tertiary) studies in English
  1. A successful completion of (of all subjects) one year of full-time tertiary study in one of the following English-speaking countries: American Samoa, Australia, Botswana, Canada (excluding Quebec), Fiji, Ghana, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), United States of America, Zambia or Zimbabwe.

*If the applicant meets all other entry requirements and has an overall IELTS academic score of 6 or equivalent with no band less than 6, the applicant will have an opportunity to sit for an English language test at a recognised ELICOS provider. If the Director of Studies of the ELICOS provider determined in their test report for the applicant to meet CIM’s English language entry requirements, the applicant will be offered admission.

Scholarships

The following conditions apply to academic scholarships provided by CIM:

  • A student must be enrolled in full-time study load (4 courses per semester OR 3 courses per semester if enrolled in Graduate Diploma of Business or Master of Business Administration) to be eligible for scholarship.
  • The academic scholarship will be credited towards next semester tuition fee. Scholarship cannot be redeemed in cash.
  • Students must apply and use the academic scholarship within 6 months of receiving the notification of results for a particular semester.
  • The academic scholarship will not be available to students who are in their final semester of studies at CIM.
  • The maximum academic scholarship available to each student is $500 per semester.
  • Academic scholarship is provided in the following amounts:
    • $150 for each course in which a student achieves Distinction (DI);
    • $250 for each course in which a student achieves High Distinction (HD);
    • Total academic scholarship amount is capped at $500 per semester.
