Welcome to Semester 2 2026

We are nearly halfway through the year, and this is the point where we welcome a new cohort while also supporting those who continue their studies with CIM.

It’s true that the year flies by, and this is definitely the case when you are studying. One moment you are walking through the doors as a new student, then before you know it, you are preparing to test your knowledge during the exam period.

We hope those of you who sat for exams in May feel confident about your efforts, and that those of you who are now finalising your new enrollment are looking forward to some exciting challenges ahead.

As we head into this semester, here are some dates to add to your diary:

  • Monday 15th June: Start of Semester
  • Friday 4th September: End of study period
  • Monday, 14 September to Saturday, 19 September: Final exams

Graduation dates fall on the following days:

  • 13th August: Darwin Graduation
  • 17th September: Melbourne Graduation
  • 16th October: Sydney Graduation

Tips to get through Semester 2 at CIM

Stay warm this winter

If you’re studying in Sydney or Melbourne, you may be surprised by how cold it gets during the Australian winter.

Even if temperatures seem mild compared to other parts of the world, the damp and wind can catch you off guard. Dress in layers, keep a jacket handy and don’t underestimate the chill on an early morning commute or a late-night walk home.

Plan your time and protect it

The middle part of the year can move quickly. Take some time now to map out the weeks ahead: assignment deadlines, exam periods, and any commitments outside of study. Once you can see the full picture, you can plan not just for when to study, but for when to rest. Breaks are part of what makes study sustainable, so build them in deliberately.

  • Break your study into manageable chunks, focusing on topics that carry the most weight
  • Try 25 to 30 minutes of focused study followed by a 5-minute break. This is known as the Pomodoro technique, and it helps keep your brain fresh and reduce burnout
  • Set realistic goals for each day rather than trying to tackle everything at once

Look after yourself

  • Prioritise sleep. It can be tempting to stay up late, but sleep is where your brain consolidates memory. An extra hour of rest before an important exam or submission can make a real difference.
  • Keep water nearby and aim for regular meals and snacks when you’re on campus or studying at home. Your brain needs fuel, especially when you’re under pressure.

Stay connected with home

Studying abroad means being away from the people who know you best. Make time to check in with family and friends back home, even when life gets busy.

A quick call or message can lift your mood more than you expect, and it reminds the people who care about you that you’re doing well.

Know that the Institute is here to support you

You don’t have to navigate Semester 2 alone. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, homesick or unsure where to turn, reach out early rather than waiting until things feel unmanageable.

Talk to your course lecturer, visit the student support team, or connect with a classmate. The support is there, so use it by emailing sso@ciom.edu.au for more information.

Get involved in campus life

Institute isn’t only about lectures and assignments. There are events and social activities happening throughout the semester. Getting involved is one of the best ways to meet people, feel more settled, and make your time here genuinely memorable. Keep an eye on what’s on and say yes to something new.

Semester 2 is a chapter, not the whole story. Take it one week at a time, lean on the support around you, and remember that looking after yourself is just as important as any assignment.

Finally, don’t forget to follow us on social media so you can stay up to date with what is happening on campus:

We hope you’re looking forward to an exciting and fulfilling few months ahead.
